Getting paid from another country: what to check first
Money7 minute readbeginner
The practical constraints that decide whether an online route can work where you live — long before you worry about marketing.
The question people skip
Before choosing a route, answer this: how would money reach me, and what would it cost? Ignoring this is the single most common reason a plan fails late.
What to check for every platform you consider
- Supported countries for payouts. Find the platform's own payout list, not a blog post, and search for your country.
- Minimum withdrawal thresholds. Some only pay once you reach a figure that would take you months to accumulate.
- Processing time. Two days and forty-five days require completely different cash-flow planning.
- Fees. Percentage platform fees plus conversion spreads can take a meaningful share of a small payment.
- Payout method. Bank transfer, mobile money, card or wallet — and whether it actually works for you.
- Tax and registration. Whether you need to register as self-employed, and what you must declare locally.
Practical rules that keep you safe
- Test with the smallest possible payout before you build a business on a platform
- Do not keep all your earnings in one platform wallet; withdraw on a schedule
- Keep every invoice and payout record from day one — your tax position depends on it
- If a platform's payout page is vague, treat that as a no until you can confirm it
What we cannot do for you
We cannot tell you which platform pays into your country today, because these rules change without warning. What we can do is make you check before you invest weeks of work. Confirm current details on the provider's own pages, and ask the provider's support directly if it is unclear — you are entitled to a straight answer.
